Veterinary Malpractice...

by Tia
(Colorado Springs, CO)

A veterinarian refused my requested treatment for a 16 day old puppy and the puppy died. Is there such a thing as veterinary malpractice? Would I be able to get compensation for this veterinarian's negligence? Would an attorney take a case like this? Thanks for any info you can give.

ANSWER for "Veterinary Malpractice...":

Tina:

We are so sorry the Puppy passed on. It seems cruel for any Doctor to refuse medical aid to a poor defensless animal. Regrettably the law doesn't provide compensation for deaths of puppies in this manner.

If the puppy had been a pure bred and was intended to be used for breeding purposes there is a chance an owner could receive compensatiuon for possibile lost income, commonly referred to as "economic opportunity loss."

Alas, at least the puppy had you to take care of her, even if it was for a very short time.

Since laws change frequently and across jurisdictions you should get a personalized case evaluation from an attorney licensed in your state (if you haven't already). Find an experienced local attorney to give you a FREE personalized case review here.
