I slipped at work on an unmarked wet floor. I am a waitress, and this was in the restaurant part of the building.
This fall resulted in a sprained ankle and possible ligament damage to my knee. People have said I have a claim, would love some advice on what I should do, if you can? Thanks.
Nicola:
Unlike the United States, there are no comparable Workers Compensation Laws in the UK. In the UK an employee can pay for permanent health insurance or private medical plans but the UK government does not recognize the need for a rigid insurance scheme similar to the Workers Compensation laws we have here in the States.
If you had to see a doctor for your injuries and as a result were required to pay medical bills, prescriptions, and any out of pocket expenses, you should be reimbursed by your employer.
Also if you had to miss work as a result of the same injuries your employer should pay those bills as well. If your employer doesn’t help you then you should seek legal advice at you’re earliest possible time.
Best of luck,
Law Guy
