How long will it take to receive payment after the demand letter is sent for a personal injury?

I've seen a personal injury matter settle in as quickly as 6 months or as long as 7 years. To start a P.I. action, first you bring a claim against the insurance company. After exchanging your medical records, sometimes the parties can agree to a quick settlement.

If a settlement can't be reached, a lawsuit is started. A case can settle anytime as the lawsuit progresses through documentary discovery, various court conferences, depositions and IMEs (independent medical examinations). Thereafter, paperwork is filed letting the court know you are ready for trial. If the case is still not settled, then you have the trial.
