On November 11, 2011, at 5:00pm, our 2 year old grandson was strangled in my husband's pickup truck window. With no heartbeat or breath, my frantic husband performed CPR and got a faint pulse. With the EMT's and Ambulance, our local hospital ER, a Life Flight Helicopter 45 miles to a second hospital, and several days in a coma, our little guy survived.
We never want another family to go through what our family or our grandson has had to. More than 35 children die each year in these terrible accidents. I want to wake the car companies up. I want Congress to write a piece of legislation to force car companies to install the $6.00 part in each window that will stop it if an obstruction is detected, like a small child, a human being.
This is so important that I'm willing to use every moment of time I have to work to get legislation passed and force this safety measure in every car and truck made or used in America. I understand Lexus has had these fail safe windows for years.
I also want to sue the pickup truck manufacturer for the damage and stress our family has faced. My daughter and her fiancee were saying their marriage vows in Hawaii at the time of the accident. Flying 3,000 miles home to a Childrens' ICU wasn't a walk in the park for her either.
What's the best way to get legislation passed to prevent this from happening again? Also, how do we go about suing the vehicle manufacturer for the medical costs and pain and suffering this ordeal has caused? Thank you.
