Back Injury Requiring a New Bed

I was in a car accident in February of this year. The other driver came down the ramp and did not stop at the stop sign. I hit him in the side.

We were going to start the settlement process and my lawyer told me to get re-evaluated by the doctor. I went and he wants me to get a new Bed. Recommendation ... you guessed it, Tempurpedic.

He wrote me a script to get one. Will this be something I can use in my case. He - the doctor - says when I lay down my spine comes out of alignment causing my legs to be numb.

Is this really feasible to change beds? Will the settlement cover the cost of the new bed?

When it comes time to settle your case, the insurance adjuster will look first at your doctor's recommendations for treatment. These recommendations will include such things as treatment, medication, referrals to outside care and I suppose.....beds.

Provided your doctor substantiates the need for a new bed and makes the necessary nexus between the bed and your continuum of care, the cost may be included.

It is a somewhat rare or unorthodox expense, so I would not be surprised if you experience questions and/or a challenge from the adjuster. However, if the connection is made by your doctor between your injury, healing and the bed, you should ultimately get the bed covered.
