What Settlement Should I Accept for this Car Pile Up?

by Basil
(Kingfisher, OK, USA)

I am unit #3 in the following police statement. I have no personal injury insurance but have been offered a cash settlement. What amount should I accept?

-----

Driver unit #1 stated he was northbound in inside lane when he looked down to set his cruise at 45mph. As he looked up at road to see a mustang car stopped right in front of him. Driver in #1 attempted to stop and swerve left to try and avoid the collision but it was too late. (POI #1 162 ' south of NE curb line airport road 20 ' west of east bridge curb line us 81.)

Vehicle #2 continued on and struck unit #3 (POI #2 110 south of NE curb line airport road.) Unit #2 traveled approximately 70' after second impact coming to rest on east side of roadway.

ANSWER for "What Settlement Should I Accept for this Car Pile Up?":

Basil:

We would be happy to help suggest an appropriate amount you might consider accepting for your injuries related to the car collision. To do that we would need to know a few things.

The first thing we need to know is the total amount of your medical bills, out of pocket expenses, and lost wages. We would also need to know if you suffered any permanent injuries or scarring, and if you are going to require any future medical care.

Once all of these factors are known we can apply a formula traditionally used in car collision cases. Depending upon the severity of the injuries, including the physician’s diagnosis and prognosis for any future medical treatment, taking the medical bills, also known as "Hard Costs” and multiplying them by anywhere from 2x to 5x, or any higher multiple will afford you an approximate idea of what your settlement should be.

Since laws change frequently and across jurisdictions you should get a personalized case evaluation from an attorney licensed in your state (if you haven't already). Find an experienced local attorney to give you a FREE personalized case review here.

Best of luck,
