Motorcycle Accident with a Broken Femur...

I was on the back of a motorcycle when a 17 year old drunk driver hit me causing a compound fracture of my femur.

I'm a waiter and have missed about 5 months of work. Can you give a rough estimate of what is payed for a broken leg? I have no health insurance. Thanks.

There is no bottom line value of each of our body parts, however there are methods by which attorneys calculate and determine what a claim is worth, over-all.

For one, you will want to make sure that you get the appropriate medical treatment. With or without medical insurance, you should still be able to seek treatment on a lien.

What this means is that the medical provider agrees to treat you without payment at first. They place a "lien" on your claim which is a promise that the medical bills will be paid from any settlement you receive.

The one problem I can see is that if you have not yet sought treatment, this 5 month gap will be viewed negatively by an insurance adjuster. Next, when the treatment has concluded, you will have medical bills, out of pocket expenses and lost wages.

These will all be used collectively to put a dollar value on your claim, hence your leg.
