Ask an Attorney a Question for FREE!

Does the insurance company get to see my injury settlement amount?

by Kima
(Philadelphia, PA)

My lawyer settled my slip and fall case so my insurance company wants a reimbursement for them paying for my therapy.

My lawyer sent them what was owed to them but why does the insurance company want to see my settlement amount? Do they have the right to review our offer? Why is that? Thanks for any information.

Usually when an insurance company seeks reimbursement, the attorney will try to negotiate that figure to something less than what is owed.

Whenever that happens, the insurance company will want to know what the case settled for to gain a better understanding of whether your request for reduction is fair under the circumstances.

Now, if your attorney did NOT request a reduction and if your attorney paid them in full, it is unclear and somewhat questionable why your insurance company would feel entitled to see your settlement figures.

If there is more information, please provide so that we can give you a better assessment.
